Do you have to be a resident to visit the Grain Valley Aquatic Center?

No. Both residents and non-residents are welcome at the aquatic center. Residents do receive a discounted rate for season memberships and early access to private pool rentals.

Residents are asked to provide proof of residency by bringing their most recent water bill to the Grain Valley Community Center when purchasing a membership or renting a facility.

The pool will open on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend and the last swim of the year is on Labor Day.

What are the pool hours after school starts in August?

A.

When the Grain Valley School District resumes classes in August, hours are adjusted to weekends only (Saturdays & Sundays Noon – 6pm).

How do I know if pool activities are canceled due to inclement weather?

A.

In the case of inclement weather, contact the Grain Valley Community Center (816-847-6230) to confirm if your pool related activity has been canceled. To ensure swimmer safety, GVPR will close the pool when lightning is detected or when the air and/or water temperature is below 70 degrees.

How do I reserve the pool for private gatherings?

A.

All park facility rentals are done at the Grain Valley Community Center at 713 Main Street, or call (816) 847-6230.

Can I bring my own food and beverage to open swim?

A.

No, we sell items at the concession stand. Bottled water is allowed.

Can I leave the pool and return without paying?

A.

Yes, the daily admission fee is good for all day. Just make sure the pool staff stamps your hand for you to be able to return.

Can I bring a floatation device to the pool?

A.

Only US Coast Guard approved floatation devices are allowed in the pool. Life jackets are available at no charge for non-swimmers.

Do I have to pay if I don’t plan on swimming and only want to watch my child or grandchild?

A.

Yes, everyone entering the pool must pay the daily admission fee.

How old does my child need to be to stay at the pool without adult supervision?

A.

Children under the age of 10 years old and all youth non-swimmers must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

What forms of payment do you accept at the pool?

A.

We accept cash and debit/credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, and Discover). Cash and debit/credit cards are accepted at the front gate as well as the concession stand. Purchases at the concession stand must be $2.00 or more in order to use a debit/credit card.

Where do I enter the pool for swimming lessons or a private pool rental?

A.

You will enter through the locker rooms on either side of the pool’s front gate. The gate will look
closed, but the locker room doors are unlocked for these programs/rentals.

How do I apply for a summer job with GVPR?

A.

Every summer, the Parks and Recreation Department hires seasonal employees for Concession Stand Attendants and Swim Lesson Instructors. These positions generally get posted in early February so that seasonal staff is hired on by mid-March. Employment applications can be completed & submitted online through the City's website (https://www.cityofgrainvalley.org/employment/). Yes, we have 2 rooms inside the community center and 5 outside structures in our parks that are

Yes. Instead of committing to a year, patrons can choose to purchase a fitness membership on a month-to-month basis. The daily fee to the fitness center is $5.00 per person. For new visitors to the facility, your first work-out is free.

What age do you have to be to exercise in the fitness room?

A.

18 years and older are always allowed. 16 and 17 year olds may work out only when accompanied by a paid legal guardian.

Does a membership at the community center include the pool?

A.

No, the pool is a separate membership, as it is a seasonal facility only.

Do you accept SilverSneakers, Renew Active or Silver&Fit at the community center?

A.

Yes, patrons who have SilverSneakers, Renew Active or Silver&Fit get free access to our fitness room and senior activities/classes. Please check with your insurance company to find out if your plan offers one of these types of memberships.

What is the difference between the pavilion and the picnic shelters at Armstrong Park?

A.

The pavilion is the large structure behind the community center and has its own private restrooms.
The shelters are the smaller structures through the park.

Do you have to reserve the pavilion, picnic shelter or athletic field to utilize them?

A.

No, these amenities are 1st come 1st serve unless someone has already reserved it. To guarantee use of a picnic shelter, athletic field or the pavilion, we highly recommend reserving it for your private gathering.

Yes. However, per City Ordinance, all animals must be leashed and under control by their owner at all times while on park property. No animals are allowed in or around athletic fields or playground areas.

What happens if a program my child is registered for gets cancelled?

If any program is cancelled by GVPR, all participants who are registered will be notified by staff and a full refund will be issued.

Please call the Grain Valley Community Center (816-847-6230) and our staff will be able to update you on any free events offered.

What happens if a program I am interested in is full and I register for the waitlist?

GVPR will contact you only if a spot opens up for that program.

How do I know if my child's little league game is canceled due to inclement weather?
