Community Time Capsule Project for America’s 250th Anniversary
The Grain Valley 250 Committee is inviting residents, businesses, schools, churches, and community organizations to help preserve a snapshot of life in Grain Valley by participating in the community's Time Capsule Project.
As part of the nationwide celebration of America's 250th anniversary, the project will collect photographs, letters, memorabilia, stories, and other keepsakes that reflect life in Grain Valley in 2026. The time capsule will be sealed later this year and reopened in July 2076 during the nation's 300th anniversary celebration.
Community members are encouraged to submit items that represent daily life, local traditions, community events, schools, businesses, organizations, and civic pride. Suggested submissions include:
• Letters to future Grain Valley residents
• Community photographs
• Business cards, menus, and promotional materials
• School and sports memorabilia
• Event programs and flyers
• Recipes and family traditions
• Small keepsakes that reflect life in 2026
Submissions will be accepted June 1 through July 31, 2026.
Items may be dropped off at:
• Grain Valley City Hall during regular business hours
• Grain Valley Historical Society on Wednesdays
The Time Capsule Project is one of several local initiatives planned to commemorate America's 250th anniversary and celebrate Grain Valley's history, growth, and community spirit.
