The City of Grain Valley is notifying utility customers of an upcoming online payment security update being implemented by our payment processing provider in coordination with Chase Payment Solutions.

Beginning Monday, June 15, 2026, customers making online water and sewer utility payments will be required to enter the billing ZIP code associated with their debit or credit card. Payments submitted with a ZIP code that does not match the card issuer’s records will be declined.

This additional verification step is intended to help reduce fraudulent transactions and improve payment security for customers using online payment services.

Customers with saved payment methods are encouraged to verify that the billing ZIP code associated with their card is current and accurate before making a payment. Common reasons for ZIP code mismatches include:

  • Recent address changes have not been updated with the bank or card issuer
  • Use of a work or alternate billing address
  • Differences between 5-digit ZIP codes and ZIP+4 formatting

Please note that this is a payment processing update from our provider and not a change to City utility billing policies. For questions regarding your utility billing account or payment process, please contact the Utility Billing Division at (816) 847-6280.
