The City (and through partnerships with Mid-America Regional Council and Eastern Jackson County) provides several opportunities throughout the year for residents to properly dispose of large items, hazardous materials, and yard waste. Please review the options below to ensure items are disposed of safely and responsibly.


City-Wide Clean Up Event

The City of Grain Valley will host its annual City-Wide Clean Up Event on Saturday, May 30, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Grain Valley residents may drop off the following items:

  • Mattresses

  • Old or unwanted furniture

  • Metal items

  • Lawn mowers (all fluids must be drained)

  • Home décor

  • Mirrors

  • TVs and other electronics

  • Scrap wood and similar items

Important Guidelines:

  • All loose items must be bagged.

  • Hazardous waste will NOT be accepted at this event.

  • Participants must reside within Grain Valley city limits.

This event provides residents with a convenient way to dispose of bulky household items that are not typically accepted through regular trash service.


Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event

Many household products contain hazardous materials that should not be disposed of in regular trash. These items require special handling to protect public health and the environment.

A Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection Event will take place on:

34900 E. Old U.S. 40 Highway
Between Grain Valley and Oak Grove, Missouri

This event is hosted by the MARC Solid Waste Management District in partnership with Jackson County, Grain Valley, and Oak Grove.

Accepted Items Include:

  • Paint, paint strippers, and varnishes

  • Adhesives and glues

  • Hobby and craft supplies

  • Batteries

  • Motor oil

  • Compact and tube fluorescent light bulbs

  • Antifreeze

  • Lawn and garden chemicals

  • Pesticides

Important Guidelines:

  • Proof of residency is required.

  • Waste is not accepted from businesses, including home-based businesses, nonprofits, churches, or rental properties.

Residents from non-member communities may use the Lee’s Summit Resource Recovery Park permanent recycling facility for a fee during operating hours on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

Eastern Jackson County Yard Waste Facility

Residents may dispose of yard waste such as:

  • Grass clippings

  • Leaves

  • Tree limbs

  • Other yard debris

Hours of Operation:

  • Saturdays only: 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.

  • Opens: First Saturday in April

  • Closes: Last Saturday in November
