The City of Grain Valley was recently awarded the Missouri Main Street Empowerment Grant - a partnership with Missouri Main Street Connection (MMSC).

MMSC is a statewide non-profit organization designed to help Missouri communities enhance local business districts economically, socially, culturally and environmentally. According to MMSC, the organization has empowered downtown revitalization in Missouri communities since 2006, resulting in $100 million of private and public investments, the creation of 834 net new businesses, and the development of 4,109 net new jobs in Main Street communities.

This grant program will help build a successful downtown district by highlighting investment and business opportunities in Grain Valley - as well as celebrating all that the community has to offer.

MMSC will provide Grain Valley community leaders with training and mentorship sessions for the next two years. Training sessions will be customized towards the community’s needs and future needs to ensure a vibrant downtown culture.

According to a press release by MMSC, “The Community Empowerment Grant is a 60/40 matching service grant. The total value of the grant in training and mentoring services is $30,800. Grain Valley is also now designated as an Affiliate in the Missouri Main Street Tier Structure which ranks progress on standards established by the National Trust for Historic Preservation and National Main Street Center.”

Community leaders attended a MMSC conference at the beginning of August to learn more about what the program offers. As more information becomes available, the City of Grain Valley will release updates via social media and/or through our email list!
