The City of Grain Valley has mailed the first round of annual backflow testing reminder letters to all residents and businesses with registered backflow prevention devices. If you have a backflow prevention assembly installed at your home or business, annual testing is required.

What Is Backflow and Why Does It Matter?

Backflow occurs when water flows in the opposite direction from its intended path. This can happen during events such as water main breaks, fire hydrant use, or sudden changes in water pressure. When this occurs, contaminants from irrigation systems, boilers, fire suppression systems, or other connections could potentially enter the public drinking water system.

Backflow prevention devices are designed to stop this reverse flow and protect the community’s drinking water supply. Annual testing ensures these devices are functioning properly and continue to safeguard public health.

This program is required by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, and the City must maintain compliance with state regulations regarding backflow device testing and reporting.

Testing Deadline

Completed backflow test reports are due to the City of Grain Valley by May 1st each year.

Residents and businesses who have not submitted their reports by the deadline will receive additional reminder notices before May 1.
