Summary
Perform general labor related activities involved with maintenance to streets, water mains and appurtenances, sanitary sewer systems and storm drains. Performs other related duties as assigned.Essential Functions
- Assist with street maintenance activities such as spreading and tamping asphalt to repair joints and patch broken pavement; cuts and prepares road surfaces for the repair of potholes and the sealing of roadway cracks; removes litter and debris from roadways
- Assist with cleaning storm drains and drainage ditches
- Assist with the installation of signs
- Assist with maintenance and repair to water and sewer lines and associated equipment.
- Paint fire hydrants and water value covers throughout city
- Operates small and heavy equipment
- Follows City’s Personnel Rules and Regulations and safety policy and practices and adheres to responsibilities concerning safety prevention, reporting and monitoring as outlined in the City’s Loss Control Handbook
- Performs all other duties as assigned
Essential Knowledge, Experience, and Ability
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age
- High School diploma or GED equivalency
- Must have a valid Missouri Driver’s License
- Must have reliable transportation to and from work
- State of Missouri Class A CDL License
- One (1) year public works maintenance experience

- General maintenance standards
- Utilization of general tools and power equipment
- Operation of light maintenance equipment
- Communicate effectively and politely with citizens and co-workers
- Follow instructions and complete assignments in a timely manner
- Performing general maintenance procedures
- By the Public Works Crew Leaders and Public Works Maintenance Superintendent

- Outdoor conditions including extreme heat/cold and adverse weather conditions
- May include hazards involving the use of equipment and chemicals
- Exposure to dirt and dust
- Flexible hours depending upon weather conditions. Since work is performed outdoors and if weather such as rain prevents work being done, then employee may be asked not to report that day or be sent home
- Sufficient clarity of hearing, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to discern verbal instructions, communicate with other employees and the public, and discern emergency or alarm warning systems, including vehicle backup alarms
- Sufficient visual acuity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to comprehend written work instructions and work orders; technical manuals and related diagrams and move over rough and unfamiliar terrain
- Sufficient manual dexterity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to operate a variety of power and hand tools and to adjust equipment.
- Sufficient strength to lift and carry 50-pound objects for varying distances
- Sufficient body flexibility, mobility, stamina, and balance to perform maintenance and repair operations that require bending, stooping, kneeling, stretching, and other physical exertions working in trenches, climbing, and working on ladders, and moving over rough or unfamiliar terrain
- Sufficient ability to endure prolonged exposure to adverse conditions such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, and prolonged sun and heat exposure during summer months
