Summary
Perform semi-skilled labor related activities involved with maintenance of water lines and appurtenances, sanitary sewer systems, streets and storm drains and other maintenance as directed. Perform routine and unique maintenance of equipment, infrastructure and facilities to provide longevity and cost-effective solutions while improving knowledge of City assets.
Essential Functions
- Performs street maintenance activities with minimal supervision in the field
- Cleans storm drains and drainage ditches
- Performs semi-skilled related work on water and sewer lines and associated equipment
- Reads water meters
- Activates and terminates water supply in residential domains
- Assist in the removal of snow and ice on City streets
- Operates small and heavy equipment
- Performs general repairs and routine maintenance on City buildings and facilities
- Performs all other related duties as assigned
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills
Knowledge of: - Confined space, equipment operation, pumping operations, and street maintenance
Ability to: - Follow instructions and complete assignments in a timely manner
Skills in: - Performing general maintenance procedures
Supervision Received - The work is performed under the supervision of the Public Works Maintenance Superintendent

Minimum or Preferred Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED or equivalent required
- Must have or be able to acquire State of Missouri Class A CDL within first 6 months of employment
- General facilities maintenance knowledge
- Two (2) years experience in related field or associates degree in related field
- Pertinent water and sanitary certifications

Work Environment
- The primary duties of this position are performed in a public building environment and outdoors and may include working on rooftops and in adverse weather conditions and hazards involving the use of power tools and equipment and hazardous chemicals.
- Adverse outdoor working conditions including extreme heat and cold and inclement weather
- Exposure to dirt and dust
- Sufficient clarity of hearing, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to discern verbal instructions and alarm and warning systems, including backup alarms
